Test 5 Results

On 11/16/2011 AMS Math League students took thier first 8th grade level contest as a practice. The 8th grade test covers slightly more material than the 7th grade test, but the difficulty level is about the same.

To get an idea of what the contests are like see the samples at the central math league website.
This histogram shows how AMS students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade performed on the Grade 7 contest.

distribution of test results by grade

It comes as no surprise that the 8th graders did significantly better as they have had more exposure to some of the more advanced math concepts.  The mean score was 20.3 which is a point or two higher than the group got on the 7th grade test. No one got 10 or lower which is very good.
